Where to Ask About Custody or Records

For county jail information, the official contact is the Rankin County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center.

Administrative offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except state holidays. Law-enforcement operations run 24 hours a day. Emergency requests should go to 911.

For sheriff public-records requests, Rankin County requires the Public Information Request Form, a specific description of the incident or occurrence, a $10 processing fee, a copy of a valid government photo ID, and a self-addressed stamped envelope when a mailed response is requested. Requests must be hand-delivered during business hours or mailed to the Rankin County Sheriff's Department, Attn: Public Records Request Official, 221 N. Timber St., Brandon, MS 39042. Faxed and emailed requests are not accepted. Proper requests are answered within seven working days, or no later than 14 working days if the department gives a written explanation.

• For booking photos, use jail roster mugshots to understand what the current roster shows and when a request may be needed.
• For charges or case filings after booking, use court records after a jail arrest.
